Indira Gandhi and her two killers
Chandigarh, Jan 5: Beant Singh along with Satwant Singh brutally assassinated the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi 28 years back. Now, Beant Singh's son, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is all set to begin his fight against the Congress. Sarabjit has chosen Punjab assembly polls 2012 as his first step to enter into the fray.

Sarabjit will contest as an independent candidate from Bassi Pathana reserve constituency in Fatehgarh Sahib district. However, this is not the first time Sarabjit is trying his luck in politics. He had contested from Bhadaur in 2007 on SAD (A) ticket, though failed to enjoy success.

Meanwhile, the ruling SAD-BJP alliance has named a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Nirmal Singh as their candidate in the constituency against Sarabjit.

Ahead of the crucial assembly election, which will be conducted on Jan 30 and the counting to be done on Mar 4, Sarabjit claimed that he is fully prepared to win the election.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her two Sikh body-guards who showed their rage against the then PM over the Operation Blue Star in Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984. Later the duo were hanged in 1989. [Details of Indira Gandhi's assassins]
