Pune: 10-yr-old girl raped, killed; 82-yr-old found guilty

Rape judgment
Pune, Jan 3: An 82-year-old man, Mohiniraj Kulkarni was found guilty in the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl. Kulkarni along with the mother of the victim was arrested three years back. A Pune court pronounced its judgment against Kulkarni on Tuesday, Jan 3.

The girl was found dead on the terrace of Kulkarni's bungalow on Oct 14, 2009. The girl's mother, Rekha Randive initially filed a complaint against Kulkarni, but later investigations revealed that Rekha was in a relationship with Kulakarni. Rekha worked as a maid in Kulkarni's bungalow.

While Kulkarni was charged with rape and murder, Rekha was arrested over charges of abetting the crime.

Failing to bear pressure of the cops during investigation, Rekha confessed that Kulkarni had promised her to give Rs 50,000 to conceal the crime. Later she turned approver in the case.

Police started suspecting citing her incoherent statements. When the girl was found dead, Rekha first said that her daughter was found dead on the terrace, but later changed it telling she found hanging from the iron staircase of the bungalow.

However, after three years, Kulkarni has been found guilty and the sentence will be pronounced soon. Kulkarni has been charged under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence) and 376 (2) (f) (committing rape of a girl below 12 years).
