Thackeray warns Dalits against Congress' tactics

Mumbai, Jan 2: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Monday, Jan 2 criticised the Centre on their decision to give an Indu Mills land in south-central Mumbai for a memorial for Dr BR Ambedkar.

"The Congress-led government has resorted to this strategy of giving the Indu mill land for construction of Ambedkar's memorial to win Dalits votes in the municipal corporation elections," said Thackeray in a statement in the party mouthpiece Samanna'.

"With elections round the corner, the Congress has started doling out many such assurances as it is desperate for votes," he said.

He further criticised the government on the assurances they made to the poor by promising free homes to mill workers, regularisation of all slums to slum dwellers and Muslim reservations. Thackeray appealed to the Dalits that they should not get lured by Congress' "tactics".

Earlier, Chief Minister of Maharashtra had announced that the Prime Minister agreed to allot the Indu Mills land to build the memorial.
