Shame on sportsmen, 6 Indian Athletes banned for doping

New Delhi, Dec 23: Taking a deadly decision, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Friday, Dec 23 banned six Indian athletes as they failed the dope test. The six athletes including Ashwini Akkunji have been banned for one year.

Ashwini had won gold for India in Asian Games. All the athletes had qualified for the upcoming London Olympics. The other athletes are - Mandeep Kaur, Taina Marry Thomas, Juana Murmu.

However, advocates of the accused, Anish Dayal claimed that all athletes still have hope for the upcoming Olympics 2012 as the ban, which has been imposed on them, will end in Jun 2012.

The time period of the one-year-ban is from Jun 2011 to Jun 2012. The accused are the participants of women's 400 metres relay team.
