Tirunelveli, Dec 19: Prime Minister's statement have mellowed down the raging controversy over the Koodankulum Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tamil Nadu. It has been suspected that KNPP protest may have some foreign influence, while the Tamil Nadu government has launched an IB probe into the functioning of six NGOs.

According to the government sources, the Home Ministry has issued a notice to the NGOs, seeking an explanation on the utilisation of the funds which they have received from abroad under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.

NGOs Sources claimed that the ministry has asked them to submit the auditor's statement, source, purpose of funding, amount credited in banks and communication between the donor and receiver by Dec 12.

“Though such notices are sent to us every year and we are given time to submit the details by December-end, the recent one was a special case,” sources claimed.

On Saturday, Dec 18, the thousands of protestors staged an agitation against PM's statement where he mentioned that the power plant cannot be allowed to remain idle. While the protestors thanked CM J Jayalalithaa for her letter to PM on his statement over operationalisation of the plant in couple of weeks.
