New Delhi gets high security cameras worth Rs 15 lakh each
The cameras which termed as an "excellent planning and security tool" weigh over 25 kg and have special, limited range night vision which can see almost five km on a day and zoom up to 60X, said a senior IT official.
The first such camera was put up in Connaught Place this month. A total of 63 cameras will be put up in the city in the coming three months. The camera feed will be monitored by the government officials and police, with one control room at the police headquarters.
The cameras will be placed on main roads, keep an eye on market areas and also traffic management, said IT officials.
"The camera will highlight the building that is registering change," an official explained over the fact that the camera will detect any change in landscape.
"With this secure databank in place, these cameras will not just serve for security and strategic purposes, but also study changes in landscape in comparison to the existing records. Therefore, they will become a powerful tool," said IT secretary Rajendra Kumar.
