The incident happened when the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu was taking part in his Rythu Porubata programme in Nizamabad district in AP. This was when a pro-Telangana supporter hurled a slipper at Naidu. The activist, later identified as Chinna Reddy of Argul village carried out the extreme step when Naidu was attending a public meeting at Jakranpally mandal headquarters on Thursday night.

The slipper however did not hit Naidu and fell on the dias. Telugu Desam leaders and activists immediately caught hold of the slipper-thrower and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The T-supporters was taken into custody.

Following the slipper attack, Naidu stated that he was in no way against the separate state of Telangana. He commented, "We already clarified our stance on Telangana during the Mahanadu." He requested the Centre to end the political instability in Andhra Pradesh soon.
