Where's safety? Women avoid Delhi, to shift to Mumbai?

New Delhi, Dec 10: What can be more worst than the news that the national capital of the country - Delhi is unsafe for women. Woman who travel around are in fear that they could be abducted, raped or murdered any moment.

A recent survey conducted by Navteq, the leading global provider of navigation enabled maps and TNS Market Research, once again came up with similar findings that were made by several other researchers. Meanwhile, the study says that Mumbai is a better city than Delhi in comparison to safety of women.

The survey was carried out at the four metro cities of the country - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Following the responses from 760 women who took part in the survey, it was concluded that Delhi was the most unsafe city while Mumbai the safest.

Earlier, an NGO had come up with a website that features areas in Delhi that is not considered safe for a woman to travel alone. [Read: NGO lists 100 'unsafe' places for women in Delhi]

In case of harassment, it could be reported through the website. The brave new initiative was launched by Whypoll, an NGO on citizen empowerment. They have kicked off their activities with a lecture series titled, 'Safe in the city'.

Earlier the Delhi police had, despite failing to provide adequate security, put all the blame on women suggesting that girls should not roam alone at night. [Read: Delhi: Fail to give security, police denies freedom to women]
