Guj cops lose HC's trust, CBI to probe Ishrat Jahan case
Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari, the bench of judges have given CBI the liberty to solicit the help of Gujarat IPS officer Satish Verma, the member of the SIT, who concluded that it was a fake encounter.
The state had requested the court to keep Verma away from further investigations as he is already facing some criminal charges.
RR Verma, chairman of the High Court has been appointed as the member of special investigation team. CBI has asked him to register a fresh FIR against the cops within two weeks.
This is the fourth case handed over to CBI after Sohrabuddin, Sadik Jamal and Tulsi Prajapati encounter case as Gujarat police failed to win the High Court's confidence.
“All top, high officials of the state upto the rank of the then DGP may fall within the ambit of investigation in connection with the registration of another/fresh FIR," said the bench slamming the role of state police in the encounter case.
