Chandolia first public servant to be granted bail in 2g scam
The CBI on Nov 30 had opposed the bail plea of Chandolia on the grounds that the principal of parity did not work on him as he was a public servant compared to others who were private persons, hence were granted bail.
Special Public Prosecutor UU Lalit said that Chandolia, who is a suspended Indian Economic Services officer, A Raja, and former Telecom Secretary and Siddharth Behura were part of the “core sector" of the criminal conspiracy in the spectrum allocation case and hence were on a “different footing."
“It would be unrealistic to draw parity with those released on bail," he had said.
Chandolia was arrested along with A Raja and Behura on Feb 2 for allegedly using their power to manipulate the tendering process so as to benefit certain telecom companies in getting licenses.
The charges against A Raja, Chandolia and Behura include criminal charges of breach of trust by a public servant with a punishment of life time imprisonment or imprisonment that could go up to 10 years.
