Danger in Mullaperiyar dam increased,Keralites intensify row
People have been observing strike in the Idukki district where the 116-year-old is situated. The national highway at Kumily which borders Tamil Nadu continued to be blocked by protesters on the day two.
People came on the streets on the slogan of "Save Mullaperiyar, save Kerala" which has been scattered throughout the nation with social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter.
Meanwhile, leaders from Kerala called a special assembly session to discuss the disputed issue. The situation of Mullaperiyar dam has been worsened as the dam will not be able to withstand even a mild quake of 5 in the richter scale. Here it can be recalled that Idukki is an earthquake-prone region and recently it has experienced series of tremors causing a major scare in the minds of residents.[Read: Check dam carrying water from Mullaperiyar collapses]
To make the matter worse, there has been a phenomenal rise in the water level of the dam which now stands at 136.4 feet which is much ahead of its capacity considering the age of the dam.
