Mullaperiyar Dam: Cong MPs to meet Resource Minister Bansal
Kerala Congress MPs are demanding the Centre to intervene and resolve the issue. The 116-year-old dam is unsafe for the people residing at the region as after Saturday's earthquake, its water level on Sunday, Nov 27 reached the maximum range. So, the MPs are demanding for a new dam.
On Monday, the ruling Congress-led UDF government and the Opposition LDF have declared a 12-hour long bandh in Idukki.
According to party sources, while Jose K Mani will hold his fast-protest in front of the Parliament in Delhi, another MP; Idukki MLA Roshy Augustine will be showing their rage in front of the state assembly in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Some of the party workers will stage their fast at the district headquarters.
Citing the reason behind such wide protest, party spokesperson said, "Why should Tamil Nadu object to a new dam? Even if a new dam is built, not a drop of water to Tamil Nadu will be reduced."
