Mullaperiyar Dam: Cong MPs on Save Kerala mission, fast@Parl

Mullaperiyar Dam
New Delhi, Nov 28: Mullaperiyar Dam, which has always been a disputed issue between Kerala and Tamil Nadu government, is becoming a greater threat for Keralites day by day. Citing the necessity to raise the issue in the national level, Kerala Congress MPs seem to have taken the responsibility of "Save Kerala" on their shoulders.

Congress MPs from Kerala on Monday, Nov 28 are all set to start their hunger strike in front of the Parliament demanding immediate intervention of the Centre to resolve the issue.

According to party sources, while Jose K Mani will hold his fast-protest in front of the Parliament in Delhi, other MPs; an Idukki MLA and Roshy Augustine will be showing their rage in front of the state assembly in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Some of the party workers will stage their fast at the district headquarters.

Citing the reason behind such wide protest, party spokesperson said, "Why should Tamil Nadu object to a new dam? Even if a new dam is built, not a drop of water to Tamil Nadu will be reduced."

However, earlier it was reported that Heavy security measure has been taken around Kerala's Mullaperiyar Dam to save people residing at the region as, after Saturday's earthquake, the water level reached the maximum.

With the Mullaperiyar issue gaining steam with every passing day, it seems the stage is set for a Kerala-Tamil Nadu showdown. With online campaigns and other social media networks taking up the cause and firing it, the issue will not die down any time soon.

On the same matter, a group of close to hundred members are intending to go on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the reconstruction of Mullaperiyar dam.
