The intelligence report states that the security arrangements are not apt considering the large number of pilgrims that come to Sabarimala every year. There has been a steady increase in the number of devotees each passing year. The report added that corresponding to the number of pilgrims, the security cover provided is inadequate and could lead to major disasters in the future.
Though all devotees are subjected to passing through metal detectors, the areas around the temple like the Bhasmakulam and other areas are completely exposed to security threats. With the temple receiving huge number of pilgrims from both inside and outside India, the place becomes prominent in the terror radar.
With the police and authorities issuing identity cards for those arriving on business and other commercial activities, this rule is also violated by certain parties by making fake ID cards. The reports claims that certain elements enter Sabarimala on such fake cards.
The aravana (sacred offering) plant that has been functioning nearby is also not adequately protected. This plant is functioning with four electric transformers of 250 KV each. The reports says that this plant needs to be provided more security cover to avoid any eventualities.
