Mumbai, Nov 24: Cyrus Mistry will soon replace Ratan Tata as the Chairman of Tata Group. Though the decision seems a "surprising" choice at this moment, if we closely observe Mistry and the 82-year-old Business tycoon, they seem to share many similar personality traits.

A former classmate of Mistry in The Cathedral & John Connon School said, "He was really shy, in fact humble, and never tom-tommed the fact that he belonged to the wealthy Shapoorji Pallonji family."

India's biggest company's Chairman, Ratan Tata is also known for his soft spoken and shy behaviour in front of the media. On the personal front, Mr Mistry is described by friends and colleagues as a soft spoken and shy who always tries to avoid interaction with the media. Mr Mistry likes to stay away from the limelight. Moreover, the Shapoorji Pallonji family itself is famous for being extremely media shy and over the years, there is little reporting to be found on their business activities and plans.

Mistry graduated from the Imperial College, London in 1990 with a BE in civil engineering. He also holds a master's degree in management from the London Business School, and is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers while Ratan Tata was trained as an architect.

43-year-old Mistry joined the board of Shapoorji Pallonji & Company as director in 1991 and was appointed the managing director of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group in 1994.

Now, Mistry will work with Ratan Tata over the next year and take the helm from him when Tata retires in Dec 2012.

Following is the list of Tata Sons heads in the past:

1991-2012 — Ratan Tata
