Bedlam in LS on Day 1 causes 1 crore loss to the nation

New Delhi, Nov 23: The loss of four hours in Lok Sabha on Day 1 of winter session led to a loss of Rs 1 crore to the nation owing to a disruption over the opposition boycotting Home Minister, P Chidambaram.

The bedlam took place despite an appeal made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the session run smoothly so as to enable important legislative business.

Officials of PRS Legislative Research, a policy study group observed that the Lok Sabha which usually meets for five hours a day, had to be adjourned due to the chaos.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned to mourn the death of Silvious Condapen and Ram Dayal Munda, two sitting members, Raj Sabha.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice on Tuesday, Nov 22, once during the question hour and the other time for the day after noon resulting in a loss of about four hours of work.

A ruckus was created in the Lok Sabha by the opposition when P Chidambaram tried to answer a question from Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Rashtriya Janta Dal member.
