Man kills NRI wife, who had an affair with his friend

New Delhi, Nov 14: A NRI wife was killed by her husband over suspicion of infidelity and the accused was arrested by the crime branch.

Sumit Handa, the accused told the branch that "he had been upset for the past one year as his wife was in an illicit relationship with his best friend and roommate in South Africa."

Sumit's friend came back to Hyderabad in Sep and he found that both his wife and his friend were in contact. He was irritated, when his friend sent Niranjani a credit card and the couple had regular quarrels.

"He had married Niranjani in February 2007 as he needed an extension of his visa to work in South Africa," said the accused. Sumit was staying with his friend, who work in an IT firm in South Africa.

Official cited that the couple's relationship turned sour after the birth of their first child, when Sumit was busied himself with his work. "Sumit says he had started checking his wife's phone, which had her lover's messages, and this led to regular fights. During the quarrels, Niranjani would brag about her law degree from South Africa and warned him that he would have to pay half his salary if he enters into a legal battle with her," said officials.

Source told the crime branch that "on the night of the murder (October 29), he caught Niranjani talking to her lover over webcam and they had a fight around 11.30pm. Niranjani pleaded that she wants to go back to South Africa. He suspected that she wanted to meet her lover. He even called up her parents and told them about it."

After killing his wife, Sumit lodged a complaint that his wife had run away. Meanwhile, the crime branch sent its team to Agra, his ancestral's house and Rai to solve the case.
