South India gets 50% wiki scholarship participants
Nearly 7,070 applications were received and around 100 candidates were selected based on the level of contribution participants contributed for the Wikimedia projects. Due to the lack of awareness about Indian languages, Wikipedias has seen over 15% of application awards for the western region.
“Within this we have a very strong presence from Pune, including a focused community working on the Marathi language Wikipedia," said Vickram Krishna, head of the scholarship committee.
Meanwhile, South India came up with 50% of scholarship applications, which is the maximum, whereas 18% came from northern region, 13% from the eastern region, he added.
