Sonia's much-publicized first rally post-surgery cancelled

Sonia Gandhi
Uttarakhand, Nov 9: Congress President Sonia Gandhi's much-publicized first public rally post-surgery has been cancelled. She was slated to participate in a rally in Uttarakhand and also inaugurate a railway project in Chamoli in the state. The reason for her non-attendance is reported to be health concerns as she was suffering from viral fever.

The organizers will however read out her speech in the rally.

The eagerly anticipated rally in the poll-bound state of Uttarakhand was watched by all, especially on what strategy the Congress would employ to diminish the growing popularity of Anna Hazare and the Lokpal Bill in the state. Only recently, the Uttarakhand CM, BC Khanduri had passed the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill in the state. Anna and his team had praised the efforts of the BJP ruled state to curb corruption by passing the landmark bill.

Sonia was slated to lay the foundation stone for extending the railway network between Rishikesh and Karna Prayag, that is believed to be the gateway to the holy pilgrim centres of Badrinath and Kedarnath.
