Will Kanimozhi be a free bird today? Bail Plea in court
The special CBI court will announce its verdict on Kanimozhi's bail plea on Thursday (Nov 3). The court will also hear the bail pleas of 7 others accused in the 2G spectrum scam. They include Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, former telecom minister A Raja's ex-private secretary RK Chandolia, Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Asif Balwa and Rajiv Agarwal and Bollywood producer Karim Morani.
DMK Chief Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi was sent to judicial custody on May 20, 2011 after she was named co-accused in the 2G scam. With her bail pleas getting rejected multiple times, the DMK chief's previous visit to Delhi saw him knocking the doors of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh. After the hectic parleys, DMK hopes that Kanimozhi will be able to come out on bail.
With Karunanidhi acting as the rock force behind Kanimozhi securing bail, her brothers, MK Alagiri and MK Stalin have more or less remained indifferent in the face of such adversity. Karunanidhi has been quoted as saying during his previous visit to Tihar, "Kanimozhi is determined, even if she is looking weak, she is very confident."
With the court framing charges on all accused, the immediate action from the accused was to apply for bail. Kani has been accused of receiving kickbacks to the tune of Rs 214 crore that was forwarded by Swan Telecom.
