Madurai, Oct 28: There was a major security scare near LK Advani's Jan Chethana Yatra route in Madurai when an RDX bomb was discovered. The bomb was discovered under a bridge on which he was scheduled to travel on the way from Madurai to Rajapalayam. The bomb was found by locals first, who later alerted local police who then intimated the NDA commandos.

The locals found the RDX bomb under a bridge in Alampatti between Madurai and T. Kallupatti. The crude RDX bomb was found inside a 6 ft plastic pipe attached to a 25 metre wire that was hidden under a nearby palm tree. The wire is believed to use to trigger the bomb. Commandos have taken the matter seriously and are investigating the matter further. Bomb squad officials rushed to the spot and disposed it.

Advani is going to Triunelveli via this route. A three-tier security was provided to Advani in Tirunelveli. The bomb was seized at the Rajapalayam Highway. He is on his way after attending a meeting at Puliangudi.

The Intelligence Bureau had earlier announced an alert warning of a possible terror threat to the yatra. According to IB source, there is major lack of cooperation in set norms between the organiser and security establishment. Moreover, the IB is also concerned about the way people are being allowed to meet Advani without security check.
