The step comes after the increased complaints about the IRCTC website on railway reservation and online bookings. Complaints flooded the IRCTC website from commuters that they were not being refunded money and tickets not being booked.
The quite popular website, India Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is doing quite well on the business front and the step from the railways would only pose a threat to their business .
The railways new website will also take the burden off the rail bookings from the IRCTC and come up with new features to give consumers a choice to choose, like booking retiring rooms and other passenger related queries.
The new website is being developed by Centre for Information and Systems which maintains the servers of Indian Railways.
“The new site will have the facility of booking retiring rooms online from the comfort of your home. The CRIS has designed a software programme that will allow a confirmed ticket holder to book a retiring room and this will be linked to the new site. Retiring rooms are railway hotels where a passenger new to the city can stay overnight in air-conditioned comfort," said an official working on the project.
