Police arrested Payal and her boyfriend along with their two co-partners in the crime. Initial investigation revealed that Shetty was in a debt of Rs 10 lakh. Payal and her gang asked Rs 1 crore as ransom from her family members who are in hotel business.
Police officials informed, "Initially, we received a complaint that Payal and Aditya had gone missing after they went to the market to buy medicine. When the ransom call was received, we began negotiations with the kidnappers who were demanding Rs 1 crore."
"During negotiations, the kidnappers reduced the ransom amount to Rs. 50 lakh but insisted on immediate delivery of money near a club," added the official.
However, police nabbed two persons who came to collect the money near the club. Succumbing to the police interrogation, the detained duo confessed their crime and revealed Payal's role in the gruesome crime.
Police rescued Aditya from a call centre where Shetty was an employee. Police arrested the "mastermind" of the crime, Shetty from the same place.
According to sources, Payal had stolen jewelery from her house almost one year back to fulfill Shetty's demands. The jewelery was worth of Rs 65,000.
