The unnamed source also said that Sonia Gandhi will remain at the helm and Rahul Gandhi will slowly yield his clout within the party. If he is conferred the top post in the party, other top leaders like Pranab Mukherjee and AK Antony will have to discuss policy matters with him as per party standards.
With Rahul not able to put up an impressive performance till now, it is believed that both Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra will strongly support Rahul to be at the top of affairs in regards to the party. It has also come out that the trio makes collective decisions on party affairs.
On Priyanka"s stand within the party, the source claimed that there are high chances that if Sonia Gandhi backs out from the election race in the 2014 elections, Priyanka will step in and contest from the family seat of Rae Bareli.
The support that Rahul Gandhi enjoys within the party is known to all and the ideal situation will be of Rahul leading the party in the 2014 Assembly elections to become the Prime Minister eventually. With PM Manmohan Singh rumoured to be the next-in-line for the President"s post, Rahul"s elevation comes at the most opportune time.
It is also understood that Rahul Gandhi's reluctance to become PM at the moment will mean that Singh will continue at the top till 2014. The fact that Singh"s term at the Rajya Sabha ends in June 2013 validates this point as well.
But with Rahul"s pro-oppressed stand not finding much takers and his political stand lacking in clarity, he will have to work hard to regain the confidence with the aam janta. The fact that the Anna Hazare movement has also caused a serious dent in the Congress" reputation is also making matters difficult for the party and Rahul.
With dynasty politics rearing its ugly head again, Rahul Gandhi being elevated to the Congress Working President post will attract stiff resistance from the Opposition too.
