Bhanwari Devi Case: Key accused surrenders

Bhanwari Devi
Jodhpur, Oct 22: In the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi, main accused Shahbuddin surrendered on Saturday (today) before a Jodhpur court. The major breakthrough in the case comes days after Rajasthan Health Minister Mahipal Maderna was dismissed in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old auxiliary nurse midwife who was posted at a sub-center in Jaliwada village went missing on Sep 3 after a video clip exposed her in a compromising position with Cabinet minister Maderna.

Amarchand, husband of Bhanwari Devi, had approached the civil court in Jodhpur's Bilada town on Oct 18 accusing the minister of raping and murdering his wife. Amarchand, Bhanwari Devi's husband believed that Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna and his associates were behind the abduction of his wife. Maderna was dismissed from his post following the allegations.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, which is probing the case, suspects Bhawari Devi may have been murdered.
