"Congress MP E.T. Kamath had visited Ralegaon Siddhi earlier this year and he was impressed with the progress of the model village," said Jaisingrao Mapari, sarpanch.
Anna Hazare after witnessing the villagers life full of misery initiated the natives of Ralegan Siddhi, earlier a drought prone village to conserve rainwater turning it into a self sustained model village in the Ahmednagar District.
"He was impressed with the way the village had developed its water shed project and ran the schools and day-to-day activities in a meticulous manner," he added.
An invitation to the members of the village and sarpanch Jaisingrao Mapari to visit New Delhi was extended by Rahul Gandhi.
"Gandhi wants to get an idea of how we have been functioning to run a model village and that if our model can be adopted in other villages across the country," Mapari said.
He further said that the Congress leader wanted to discuss the implications of Jan Lokpal Bill with them.
Mapri will be accompanied by Suresh Pathare, Anna Hazare's personal assistant, Ramdas Ugle, trustee of Sant Yadav Shikshan Mandal, a school being run here among others.
The village's success story lies in its area of non-conventional energy. The streets in the village are lit up by solar lights and four large community biogas plants are fitted with the largest biogas plant at the community toilet.
