Chennai, Oct 16: The Koodankulam nuclear power plant stir has been called off temporarily to ensure safe polls on Monday, Oct 17, said reports.

Protestors are agitating against the nuclear plant over safety issue. The protestors earlier blocked roads stopping at least 700 scientists and over 5000 workers to report for work.

Meanwhile, the police beat up agitators agitating against the Nuclear plant at the plant site on Oct 14 that included four physically challenged boys.

The Kanyakumari Police warned of strict action against those who protested against the power plant in front of the main gate of the power plant.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier in a letter to Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa wrote that the prospects of availability of this power plant if withdrawn would affect the state's development and industrial plans.

Jayalalithaa, however, snubbed the PM's letter showing her oneness with the people of her state over the issue.
