Shankarappa resigns, paves way for CM to enter Upper House
It is mandatory for a person who is sworn in as minister to get elected to either the state legislative assembly or council within six months thereafter. Gowda has completed two months in his post.
Speaking to reporters after tendering his resignation to Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankarmurthy, Shankarappa said he did not resign under anybody's pressure, but on the directive of the party. Gowda replaced B S Yeddyurappa, who resigned after he was indicted by the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
