Bangalore, Oct 5: While the inaugural date of Bangalore Namma metro is just weeks away, Karnataka CM DV Sadananda Gowda, Home, Transport and Bangalore Urban District in-charge Minister R Ashok, enjoining BBMP officials, have decided to login in night shifts to ensure flawless operation.

CM Gowda announced that on Oct 20, the metro's initial service will kick off. The first phase from Byapanahalli to MG Road will be opened for metro commuters to jump in. Meanwhile, BBMP wants to hear no complaints from government as it is one of the landmark events in Bangalore. Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath is scheduled to be the chief guest.

BBMP Engineer-in-Chief BT Ramesh will be inspecting work during night starting from Oct 19, Tuesday. Minister Ashok will login in night shift on Oct 15, while CM Gowda on Oct 17. Sources said that the metro work will be on between 10 PM to 6 AM, to avoid traffic congestion during peak hours.

"Palike has deployed 100 men to monitor that nothing mars the beauty on either side of the metro track, beneath the metro flyover and the footpaths," said Ramesh.

“On many stretches, a few ornamental curb stones have fallen down. Our people will complete the repair work before the launch and junior officers will monitor the work," he said

“Every night after the Dasara, one of our junior officers, including executive engineer or assistant executive engineer, will be on night shift," said BBMP Chief Engineer (East zone) Krishna Swamy.
