Srinagar, Oct 1: People's Democratic Party (PDP) demanded the resignation of Jammu Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and MoS Home Nasir Aslam Wani over the mysterious death of a retired teacher, Haji Yousuf in the police custody.

61-year-old Haji Yousuf was handed over to the Crime Branch by Omar Abdullah over alleged corruption and blackmailing charges. Yousuf was accused of taking bribes from two National Conference leaders with a promise to make them Minister and Member of Legislative Council.

The leaders complained the issue to Omar Abdullah, who had called all of them to his residence on Thursday, Sept 29.

Sources revealed that the state government has ordered the High Court judge to inquire into the death of Yousuf.

PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig has been quoted as saying, “Caesar cannot be investigated till he is Caesar. In order to inspire confidence, Caesar must step aside. It is a mysterious death. We don"t know whether he (Haji Yousuf) died at Omar"s residence or in custody."

He further added that suspiciously three people who were on the personal security of chief minister were transferred overnight. They must have been either witness to what happened or must have been instruments.

On Friday, Sept 30, the son of Haji Yousuf, Syed Talib Hussain had received a call from his father telling that he was going to meet MoS HomeNasir Aslam Wani in Srinagar.
