Yemeni security officials told The Associated Press that there was an airstrike this morning in the country's east, between al-Jawf and Marib regions.
The officials could not provide more details and spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to talk to the media.
Tribal elders in the area say the airstrike targeted an al-Qaida convoy in the east. The elders could not say if there were casualties. The United States has al-Awlaki, who has found refuge in Yemen, on a kill-or-capture list.
