Madurai: SI moves HC seeking Rs one crore compensation

Madurai, Sept 29: A police sub-inspector here has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking Rs one crore compensation from three police officers for allegedly foisting a case and arresting him 11 years ago.

Justice R.Sudhakar, before whom the matter camp up, ordered issuing of notice to the respondents -- ADGP and Vigilance Officer of Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation in Nagercoil S R Jangid, Intelligence IG Abashkumar and DSP John Rose.

The matter was posted after two weeks for hearing.

The petitioner V Kumaravel submitted that Jangid, the then DIG Madurai Range in collusion with the then Superintendent of Police Abashkumar and Rose, then inspector, had in Aug 2000 foisted a false case accusing him of misbehaviour and arrested him while in uniform. He was also suspended.

The SI submitted he was acquitted by the Judicial Magistrate Court and the Madras High Court also held that the case against him was false.

Because of the "false case", the SI said he was illegally detained and his credibility in the society and his veneration in police department was also spoilt.
