Washington, Sep 29: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, during her meeting with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, in New York this week urged India to take necessary steps to ensure the nuclear liability bill conforms to international standards, a top American official has said.

"The secretary urged India to take the steps necessary to ensure that its nuclear liability regime conforms with the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage," State Departments spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily news conference.

"We continue to hope that that can move forward quickly," she said. "There are some decisions that have to be made on the Indian side," Nuland said when asked about the delay in the implementation of the civilian nuclear deal.

Refuting reports that the relationship between the two countries is not that good, Nuland said the agenda of the Clinton-Krishna meeting in New York was very strong, very rich and very vigorous.

"We are working on a huge number of things together, bilaterally, regionally, globally," she said, adding, "We continue to pursue that on all fronts."
