Parents oppose Bollywood actor Imran Khan's PIL on drinking
The application was filed by Chitranjan Kumar on behalf of the parents that prohibition was desirable and ban on liquor in no way was illegal, unjust and arbitrary.
Justifying the new law, the intervenes put forward an argument that the consumption of alcohol would only pollute minds of youth and change their lifestyle resulting in attitudinal problems and behavioral patterns.
Parents also argued that lowering the age limit to consume alcohol would only add more to offences such as drinking and driving as large number of youth fall under the age group 18-25. Further adding that drinking was a separate offence.
Imran Khan in his argument in the PIL said that the government's increasing the age limit of drinking liquor was against the fundamental rights of a citizen.
"If the government has not banned sale of liquor then anyone above the age of 21 should have the choice of consuming it. A major can decide for himself what is right and wrong," the actor had argued.
Imran Khan's PIL and the application filed by parents would come up for hearing soon.
