Illegal mining: K'taka-AP link brings more trouble for Reddy

Janardhan Reddy
New Delhi, Sept 23: The Supreme Court on Friday, Sept 23 ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the illegal mining link between Karnataka's Bellary and Andhra Pradesh's Ananthapuram. The apex court's order clearly brought fresh trouble for the Reddys who have already been lodged in jail.

"We want the CBI to investigate linkage of illegal mining in Bellary and Anantpur," said the Supreme Court on Friday. The apex court's order came after the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) report found that the company owned by Reddy indulged in illegal mining.

The Supreme Court also asked the CBI to table its status report on the investigation in Obulapuram illegal mining case.

However, the CBI court on the same day posted the hearing on the central investigation agency's petition seeking custody of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy on Sept 29.
