2G crack in UPA: Pranab hurls attack; Chidambaram to quit?
A letter, prepared by a senior bureaucrat in the Finance Ministry and sanctioned by Pranab Mukherjee, claimed that the then Finance minister (Chidambaram) could have prevented the telecom scam in 2008 with a little more vigilance.
Pranab's letter reportedly was sent just a moth after (Mar 2011) former telecom minister A Raja was sent to jail over his tainted role in the second generation telecom spectrum scam.
Earlier Janata Party President, Subramaniam Swamy had accused Chidambaram of being present in the auction when Raja allocated 2G spectrum in a throwaway price to telecom companies after allegedly receiving huge amount of money.
The Supreme Court asked Swamy to submit concrete proofs to prove his allegations against the home minister. However, the investigating agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently refused to initiate any investigation on Chidambaram claiming that the apex court cannot direct any probe in the telecom scam.
