Ban on exports of onion lifted

New Delhi, Sep 20: The ban on the export of onions have been lifted after farmers protested in Maharashtra.

The Empowered group of Ministers (EGoM) banned the export of onions to check the rising retail prices on Sep 7.

A price of $475/tonne was also set as the export price after the EGoM met today (Sep 20).

Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister banned the export of onion to control the rising retail price which went up to Rs 25 per kg. This however upset the farmers in Maharashtra.
