The youth wing workers poured in large numbers at the fast venue and shouted slogans like "Shankersinh tum aage badho, hum tumhare saath hai (Shankersinh you march ahead and we are with you)."
The Congress leaders, who have dubbed Chief Minister Narendra Modi's fast as "five star" for being held in an air-conditioned hall, are observing their fast on the footpath in front of the Sabarmati Ashram.
"The state government has spent several crores of rupees from public money on making arrangements for the five star fast at the University ground here, inflicting losses on the state exchequer," Vaghela alleged.
"The way this government has spent crores on the fast and has used the state machinery to organise it... we are sitting here to expose all this before the people," he said.
"Whatever event is organised by the chief minister, ultimately its the state treasury, which has to suffer loss," Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil, who has been sharing dais with the two fasting leaders, said.
