New Delhi, Sept 19: Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani who is arguing the controversial cash-for-votes case has taken a complete u-turn in the case. Earlier ha had alleged that the BJP was the mastermind behind the sting operation in the cash for votes saga that played out in the floor of the House. Now he has flip-flopped from his earlier stand and said that it was the Congress leaders who bribed the BJP MPs and not Amar Singh.

Former Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh was named an accused in the controversy and ahead of the court hearing was hospitalised at the AIIMS following health complications. BJP leader LK Advani had also claimed on record that the BJP was behind the expose and that he too should be arrested in this regard.

Jethmalani commented on this, "Recently L K Advani spoke in the Lok Sabha that this sting was organised by BJP... So the money probably came from a BJP source. Singh did not provide the money. Moreover, the sting was done to expose corruption, this shows that anything they did was not unlawful." [Read: Jethmalani to dump Amar Singh to please BJP?]

The case had taken a further dramatic turn when another accused in the case, Suhail Hindustani collapsed in the Tees Hazari court ahead of his hearing on Monday. Jethmalani is now claiming that Amar Singh was not involved in the deal at all. Meanwhile, Amar Singh's bail plea is due to be heard today (Sept 19).
