Compensations are insufficient: Delhi blast victims

New Delhi Sept 10 : Delhi government on Friday, Sept 9 has distributed compensation to Delhi blast victims but many of the injured have claimed that the compensation was not sufficient as they have been disabled for life.

Sources said that compensation has already been distributed who were admitted to Ram Monohar Lohia hospital and now 33 injured are undergoing treatment. The compensation cheques were handed over to relatives of the injured. It is also learnt that government assured the injured that, this was just the initial amount and possible things will be done as required.

Ratan Lal Shroff, whose both legs have been cut off and is in stable condition in the ICU, has been handed over a compensation of Rs two lakh. Another patient Mridul Bakshi, who is still fighting for his life after suffering multiple injuries in legs, chest and abdomen, has been given Rs one lakh, said hospital official.

"We were called at about midnight and collect our compensation which we had refused because it is too less. Doctors are saying my brother may become permanently disabled," Vinod Bakshi, brother of Mridul, said.

Earlier, government had announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the blast while those permanently incapacitated will get Rs 2 lakh. Those seriously injured in the blast will receive Rs one lakh while in case of any death of minor, the family will get Rs 1.5 lakh. People who received minor injuries in the blast will be given Rs 10,000.

The Wednesday, Sept 7 blast left 13 people died and over 90 injured.
