Parliament condemns Delhi High Court blast

New Delhi Sept 7: Parliament of India on Wednesday strongly condemned the high intensity bomb blast that took place outside the Delhi High Court on Wednesday morning (today). The blast until now has claimed nine lives and left more than 45 injured as confirmed by Home Secretary R K Singh.

Both Lok sabha and Rajya Sabha condemned the blast soon after they met for their daily business. Sources also said that the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12.30 PM today and the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM to allow concerned authority and government to gather more facts about the blast and make a statement in that regard in later hours of the day.

Home Minister P Chidambaram is also expected to make a statement in connection with the bomb blast in Lok Sabha. Chidambaram has also presided an emergency meeting with officials to assess the security situation in the capital.

Earlier, when the Upper House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari said, “A disturbing news has just trickled in about a bomb blast outside the Delhi High Court."

"There are reports of some casualties. This is something to be condemned," he said. He also added that government will make a statement in this concern when the facts are available.

"As soon as facts are available, we will request the government to share it with the House," he said, adding that it could be possible by around 2 PM and adjourned the House till then.

Meanwhile, Army was deployed immediately outside the High Court premises and a team of National Security Guards (NSG) also reached the spot to take stock of the situation. A high alert has also been declared in the capital and security of all vital installations, including Parliament has been tightened.
