Anna Hazare's peaceful anti-corruption protest turns violent

Anna Hazare
New Delhi, Aug 26: Who were they? Anna supporters? That's a crucial question for now. A group of men, claiming themselves as Anna Hazare's supporters, attacked the cops on Thursday, Aug 25 midnight. They clashed with the policemen and dismantled barricades.

According to few sources, there were a group of seven to eight men, who were drunk. They got into a clash with the cops at around at 3 am at the maidan. They heckled the policemen and hit them with sticks when stopped from opening the iron gate, being used as VIP gate. Two cops were injured.

The mad group shouted out slogans as the policemen tried to persuade them to go away. "A group of people argued with policemen and then tried to flung open the gate of the maidan," a police officer deployed at the agitation site said requesting anonymity.

A senior Delhi Police official soon arrived at the spot and a platoon of the CRPF personnel was also called in to control the group. Four Police Control Room (PCR) vans reached the spot after 20 minutes.
