Anna fast effect: 2500 injured at Ramlila Maidan

Delhi, Aug 26: At least 2,500 people have been injured within 36 hours after there were reports of shoving, pushing, trampling and frenzy at Ramlila Maidan where Anna is on a indefinite fast protest against corruption.

According to information by the IAC medical camp at Ramlila Maidan, 2500 patients have been treated for various injuries and the Team Anna blamed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of failing to provide a well prepared venue for the movement.

"We have treated over 2500 people for different injuries since yesterday. Some get pushed around in the crowd and others fall prey to loose bricks," said Dr Sanjeev Chhiber, head of team of doctors at the camp.

"It is not our fault. We have completed all our work on time. If any nails or bamboo is lying around from the tent-making it is Team Anna's fault. They are the ones who built the same; all our work was completed on time in a proper manner," said Yogendra Chandolia, MCD Standing Committee chairman .

Neeraj Kumar a Team Anna member said, “I am in constant touch with the medical team. The figure is not so large. It is much less."

Meanwhile, In a twist to the Lokpal debate, the bill will be now discussed in the parliament on Sat, Aug 27, said sources.
