The musician in question is a DJ named Jenni who has launched a Facebook page in support of the cause. She adds that she has been a victim of the casting couch and says, "Having observed the casting couch syndrome for over three years, I often wondered what can be done about it. Anna"s campaign made me realise what difference one person can make. We need an Anna Hazare in the film and music as well to curb this menace, which poses the biggest challenge to all strugglers."
Jenni has received support from an NGO, Citizen Action Forum and has officially named her campaign, 'Fight the casting couch'. The Facebook profile picture that she has posted shows Jenni showing off her bare back and has attracted many.
On asked if she intends to take the fight seriously and name those who have indulged in casting couch, she said, "I think it is too soon to take names. I am waiting and watching people"s response to assess if should disclose identities."
Jenni wants to be the voice of many newcomers who are being exploited by directors and producers for gaining a break in filmdom. The open secret has become a part and parcel of gaining a foothold in the ruthless industry. A film director has been quoted as saying, "A lot of aspirants either give in to the pressure for the sake of their careers or pack their bags and leave. Either way, they are the victims."
Wannabe models and actors commented, "You lose out on work if you pretend to not understand what they"re implying." Another model stated, "Imagine my shock when a male filmmaker sized me up and made a suggestive comment. I always thought only women had to go through all this filth."
