NO bar to Aarakshan in UP; SC slams May govt, lifts ban
The apex court, taking a hand on the state government, claimed that UP government had no powers to suspend screening of the film on the ground that it may cause breach of peace.
The state government cannot seek deletion of certain potions of the film as this amounted to censorship, stated the court on Friday.
Earlier, a government notice said, "The decision to ban the film was taken after prolonged discussion and debate on the movie after is was viewed by a high level committee of top officials of the state."
It also said, "After due deliberations, the high level committee came to the conclusion that several exchange of dialogues between different characters in the film were quite provocating and could incite civil disorder and violence."
