Probe ordered into saline death in medical college
Cuttack, Aug 17 (PTI) The ghost of saline deathcontinues to haunt SCB medical college hospital here as theOrissa government today ordered an enquiry into the death of a60-year-old woman who died allegedly due to administration ofcontaminated IV fluid on Tuesday.
��������According to reports, one Purna Naik of Ganjamdistrict who was under treatment here for malaria for over aweek died on Tuesday evening after she was given the salinewhich was later found out to be outdated.
��������The woman�s son Prakash who first noticed theblunder, brought it to the notice of the hospital authoritiesand soon tension built up in the hospital as angry patientparty made a scathing attack on the hospital staff andauthorities.
��������The Director of Medical Education and Training(DMET) Dr Prasanna Dash taking note of the allegation visitedthe hospital today.
��������"The DMET has been asked to undertake an enquiryinto the matter," said hospital superintendent D N Moharanawho admitted that the saline had actually crossed the expirydate.
