Neighbour abducts, kills 8-year-old kid

Mumbai, Aug 13: Two young friends abducted an eight-year-old kid, strangled him to death and then dumped him on the railway tracks when they realised the fact that the boy had recognised them as they were neighbours. The young kidnappers cum murderers had demanded Rs.2 lakhs from the boy's father.

The murderers, 19-year-old Azam Khan, who studies in a local madrassa, and Mohammad Shahid, 21, an unemployed were arrested by the Crime branch on Friday, Aug 12. Both are the residents of Bhagat Singh Nagar in Goregaon (West).

This inhumane plan first hatched in Azam's mind to kidnap his neighbour Ghulam Shaikh's son, Adam, and he convinced Shahid to be his partner in crime. Ghulam works as a light technician in the film industry.

“On August 6, the duo kidnapped Adam. But, when the boy recognised them, they strangled him. Theydumped his body on the tracks between Goregaon and Malad stations," said RB Dalvi, senior police inspector, crime branch (unit XI).

When Adam did not return home until evening, his parents lodged a missing person's complaint with the Bangur Nagar police. “On August 7, the duo made a ransom call to Ghulam and demanded Rs2 lakh.

“We kept a close watch on Shaikh's house and found Azam"s behaviour suspicious. We called him for questioning and our suspicions turned out to be true. He confessed to the crime and where they had dumped the body," said Dalvi.
