Srinivas brutally chopped off his wife's hand with a machete before fleeing. Neighbours rushed to the spot after they heard Mamata, Srinivas's wife screaming and found her collapsed in a pool of blood, her severed limb beside her. They rushed her to Ramanagaram government hospital with the help of police.
There, doctors referred her to a private hospital in the city. According to police, Mamata's condition is critical and she has been kept under observation for the next 24 hours. Doctors are attempting to reattach her arm.
The couple shared a strained relation and Srinivas beat his wife up over trivial issues. When Mamata came down to her parents' home to stay down, her husband came up to her house to take her back. But, when Mamata refused to get back with him, infuriated Srinivas chopped her hands.
Police arrested the accused V Srinivas, a cab driver and resident of Peenya, North Bangalore, in the evening.
