The boy was chained on the grounds that it was doubted that the boy was born out of an illicit relationship. A case was registered against the father-Benny (28), mother Manju (26) and grandfather Anthony (57) after the miserable condition of the child was brought to the notice of charity workers and a police couple of years back.
TU Mathukutty, Additional Sessions judge, Thodupuzha sentenced the accused to two-and-half years jail after they were found guilty of torturing and keeping the child under unlawful detention.
It was also revealed that the parents who used to go out for work would chain the kid to the pillar in front of the house in an open space often with a dog also chained to the same pillar.
The matter came to light after a relative witnessed the condition of the child after visiting their house. He immediately reported the issue to a priest of a nearby church. The boy was rescued and taken to a charity home after the police intervened. There were marks of cigarette butts also on the body of the kid when he was rescued.
