Godhra riots:CM Modi now cracks the whip on DIG Rahul Sharma
Sharma is alleged to have violated service conditions and clandestinely passed information to the Nanavati Commission that is probing the Godhra riots. Sharma had told the SIT that the phone calls gathered in the Naroda Patia case were destroyed.
Modi had earlier suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt for not reporting to work for close to 10 months. Sharma had earlier irked Modi when he became a whistle blower of sorts exposing Modi's role in the Godhra riots. Sharma had alleged that Modi had reportedly given the go-ahead to officials to allow the Hindus to vest their anger on Muslims.
Bhatt had earlier stirred the hornet's nest when he provided fresh salvo against Modi in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court. He revealed that he was present in the meeting on Feb 27, 2002 convened in the CM's residence when he made the controversial remark on Muslims. The SC is yet to take Bhatt's affidavit on record.
Bhatt had also made damning allegation that revealed emails portraying how the state government was passing on information to the lawyers of those accused in the riots through Gurumurthy Swaminathan, who is an RSS ideologue.
